1. I choose the letter Y, because it is the first letter of my name and it is unique. I started envisioning different things that may represent a "Y." I did many thumbnails sketches to see what worked best but nothing seemed to please me. I then choose to make a "Y" out of flowers but this wasn't satisfying me. I then finally settle down on the idea of creating a "Y" out of two snakes. The whole process of creating maybe different drafts, helped me to really decide what I wanted to do as well as see what worked the best.
2. I arrived at my concept by trying to determine what animal would involve an interest concept that would create a "Y." Snakes are one of my favorite animals, because they relate to my personality very much. I represented this concept by joining two snakes to form the "Y" with their mouth open almost as though they are going to attack each other. This describes my personality of being powerful and being dangerous in some way.
3. The most challenging aspect of this project was choosing what would be worked the best to represent a "Y." This was difficult because there are a numerous of things that can form a "Y" but some work better than others.
4. I am satisfied with my project because I love the concept I settle down for. As well as I really enjoy looking at it, because it is appealing to the eyes due to it's concept.
5. If I would change anything about my design, it would be to play around more with color in order to provide a more realistic aspect to it. As well as creating a more 3D look to the snakes which would make my concept more complex, and realistic.

Final:
I love the difference between your sketches and your final. The duality between the snakes is very visually pleasing as well. Im very happy you chose to go with the snakes because Its more complex and has more meaning than the flowers, even though thats still a great design.
ReplyDeleteThat's cool how you were able to completely scratch your original idea to a concept so powerful. I love both designs, but the snake one more because of how they were drawn and because of the meaning it has to you. Great job :).
ReplyDeleteI agree with Suzanne on that point! I'm someone who lingers on old ideas and designs, so sometimes it's hard for me to completely give up on an idea. I also like how you curved the top of the Y so that it gives your design an even more snake-like quality c: And now that I know the reason why you chose to use snakes as a part of your design, I feel that the idea behind the concept is even stronger because I can see how you would share the same qualities as a snake (in a good way, don't worry). You can be vicious and headstrong when you want to, but you can also be very flexible (idea-wise), which is great!
ReplyDeleteYou know what your design reminds me of? Adam and Eve. :P and also anaconda :P and buns. One way to improve your art is to make the snake head without the bump. A snake head is quite flat almost :P
ReplyDeleteThough I like both your original and final design, I agree with everyone else that the snake one is more powerful. I also really admire your courage to just completely abandon an idea and go for something that represents you better, despite all the work and time you had already dedicated to the first one.
ReplyDeleteI really like your letter drawing because it evokes a sense of power and irony. The position of the two snakes create a sense of conflicting power that curves into the letter y. I also the different prints and design of each of the snakes.
ReplyDeleteThis letter represents so much power, and I think that factor makes your project so much better. I also love how each snake is a different design and color and stands out as they wrap around each other.
ReplyDeleteThe contrast between the draft and the final was really huge. However I think your decision to change your idea completely was very smart and bold of you
ReplyDeleteYour letter and concept can be easily seen through your design. I like how you used color, if you used a wrong color, one snake can steal the spotlight but now its just right.
ReplyDeleteI really like the detail in the snakes' bodies as they wrap around each other. Also the minimal colors don't take away from the design which is really nice.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you made the intertwining snakes because I think making a design like that can sometimes prove difficult but you did a really good job with it! I like your color choice as well and the simple background that allows for the snakes to stand out.
